Sony PMW-EX1R – How to enter to service mode – How to replace the lithium battery – How to update the firmware


Sony PMW-EX1R:  Basic Menu Operation
Press the MENU button to enter the menu mode. Press the PICTURE PROFILE button, the MENU button, or the STATUS button while the menu is displayed to close the menu display. The menu display is closed when the power is turned off.
1. Press the MENU button.
# The system enters the menu mode.
# For displaying the SERVICE menu, refer to section 3-1-3 of this manual.
2. Press the joystick to move the cursor to the desired setting item and press the SEL/SET button.
Exiting the Menu Mode
Press the MENU button again.
The system exits the menu mode to return to the normal camera mode.
SERVICE Menu
To display the SERVICE menu, the following operations are needed.
1. Close the LCD monitor.
2. Set the LCD B.LIGHT switch on the upper operation panel to the “OFF” position.
3. Set the GAIN switch on the side operation panel to the “H” position.
4. Press the CANCEL button, the MENU button, and the Jog dial at the same time.
5. When the LCD monitor is opened, the SERVICE menu is displayed.
# Pressing the MENU button again closes the SERVICE menu display.
# Once the SERVICE menu has been displayed, simply pressing the MENU button displays the SERVICE menu instead of the normal SETUP menu unless the power is turned off.
Firmware Upgrade
Upgrade the firmware for the PMW-EX1R through a USB connection to a computer.
For detailed information about the upgrade procedure, check the readme file that comes with the upgrade software.

Firmware Upgrade Procedure
Download the software for the new firmware upgrade onto the computer before starting these operations.
1. Check that the power switch on the PMW-EX1R is turned OFF.
2. Remove the cover on the USB maintenance connector.
3. Use the USB connector that comes with the PMW-EX1R to connect the computer and the USB maintenance connector.
4. Switch the power switch to CAMERA and turn the power ON.
5. Run the software for the firmware upgrade on the computer.
6. When the upgrade is complete, turn OFF the power and remove the USB cable.
7. Attach the cover on the USB maintenance connector.
When the PMW-EX1R is connected to the computer for the first time, the driver software will need to be installed into the computer. For more details, check the readme file that comes with the upgrade software.
Lithium Battery
1. Remove the screw, and remove the lithium battery lid.
2. Remove the lithium battery.
3. Reinstall the lithium battery by reversing the steps of removal.

How to access Service Mode
This projector has Service Mode in addition to standard on-screen menus (User Mode).
This mode enables some menu settings for the service operation.
Setting to Service Mode
1. Please push the main body or the menu (MENU) button of the wireless remote controller.
2. Choose a sub menu "service password" of the main menu "projector setup" and push the enter (ENTER) button.
3. Input the password "1565" by remote control and press the ENTER button.
4. Press the MENU button. "SERVICE MODE" (MAIN MENU) will be displayed.
Resetting to User Mode
1. Please push the main body or the menu (MENU) button of the wireless remote controller.
2. Choose a sub menu "service password" of the main menu "projector setup" and push the enter (ENTER) button.
3. Input the password "0000" by remote control and press the ENTER button.
4. Press the MENU button. "USER MODE" (MAIN MENU) will be displayed.
Functions in Service Mode
EXTRA OPTION
EXTRA OPTION is added to bottom in the MAIN MENU
1. LIGHT OUTPUT
Adjusts brightness with Dynamic Iris. It darkens as the value becomes small.
2. MAX IRIS LEVEL
Adjust the maximum diaphragm quantity of Dynamic iris. Please do not usually change setting.
When changed an iris unit or a DMD block.
3. DYNAMIC GAMMA MODE
Setting of the DYNAMIC GAMMA operation.
- ON : Enables Dynamic gamma. (default)
- OFF : Disables Dynamic gamma.
4. 3DCMS
- ON : Enables 3D Color Management system. (default)
- OFF : Disables 3D Color Management system.
5. SELF CHECK
Self-diagnosing information Displays

6. POWER OFF MESSAGE
Setting of the shutter function with standby operation
- SHUTTER KEEP: When push the standby key with shutter ON, keep the shutter mode.
- SHUTTER OPEN: When push the standby key with shutter ON, open the shutter and display the "Power OFF confirmation message". (Default setting)
7. ERROR OSD
When do not watch the error instructions LED of the lamp by a back projection, the errors of the lamp can be displayed in the OSD.
- ON: "Lamp error message" is displayed on OSD.
- OFF: Does not display the "Lamp error message" in OSD.
8. CONVERGENCE
When the ingredient of each R/G/B color deviation, revise it electrically.
9. MODEL
Set this when the A-P.C.Board is replaced.
# If you can copy EEPROM data from the old A-P.C.Board, this setting is unnecessary.
# This model setting is changed after turn power on and off.
10. CLOG SENSOR CALIBRATION
Proofreading the blocking detect circuit.
# Execute this after EEPROM
IC3509/IC3518/A-P.C.Board or clogging sensor (M2-P.C.Board) is replaced.
11. LAMP COOLING MODE
Setting of the fan operation for lamp cooling time.
- FAN STOP : Lamp fan is stopped at the lamp cooling time.
- FAN ROTATION : Lamp fan is rotated at the lamp cooling time.
12. SMOKE FILTER DISPLAY
Setting of the self-diagnosis display (U75) at the time of smoked cut-off filter use.
- ON : Warning is displayed.
- OFF : Warning is not displayed.
When to replace the lamp unit
1. The lamp unit is a consumable component. Since its brightness gradually decreases over time, it is necessary to replace it regularly. The estimated duration before replacement is 3 000 hours.
However, this may be shortened depending on individual lamp characteristics, usage conditions, and the installation environment. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that a replacement lamp unit be prepared.
2. To predict when to replace the lamp, check the lamp cumulative operating hours displayed in lamp1-4 of "STATUS".
3. The unit can damage the projector if it has not been replaced after 3 000 hours of usage.
Thus, the lamp automatically turns off after approximately ten minutes. If the cumulative operating time of all 4 lamp unit bulbs exceeds 3 000 hours, the power will be switch off after about 10 minutes.
Replacement procedure for lamp unit
1. Power off the projector and disconnect the power plug from the power outlet.
And wait at least one hour, and then check if the lamp unit has been cooled down.
2. Loosen the lamp unit cover fixing screw (one screw) until it turns freely, and then open the lamp unit cover in the direction of the arrow.

B.Slide it in the direction of the arrow, and then pull it out backward to remove.
3. Loosen the lamp case fixing screws (two screws each) until they turns freely, and then hold the lamp case handles, pull out backward.
4. Loosen the lamp unit fixing screws (two screws each) until they turns freely, and then pull out the lamp unit from the projector.
5. Install the Lamp units and reverse the disassembly procedures, install the rear cover.
#Projector does not turn on by protection circuit, if Lamp unit or rear cover are incompletely-installed.
#If the lamp unit or lamp case is not installed properly, remove it and then gently install it again.
Pushing it in forcibly or exerting excessive force may break the connector.
# When you place the new lamp unit, the projector resets the total usage time of the lamp unit automatically.
Attention
When you loosen the lamp case fixing screws with the projector installed upward in the vertical direction, the lamp case may drop off on its weight
Be sure to hold the lamp case handle when you loosen the lamp case fixing screws.
Initialization for control device password
To revert to the factory default password (AAAA), perform the following operations while the screen asking for a control device password input is displayed.
1. Press the <AUTO SETUP> button on the remote control or control panel for at least two seconds.
2. Press DOWN ARROW  for at least two seconds.
